What?!? 10,000 Square Feet!

What?!? 10,000 Square Feet!

Oh boy! So we weren’t planning on moving. We certainly weren’t looking for another fixer upper. But luck had me browsing the internet one night and…lo and behold…I spotted a house on 10 acres that was owned by a bank. Hmmm, could this be it? An acreage (in the perfect location) was just what we wanted!

After a bit of probing by our realtor, the bank finally agreed to show it to us. Uh oh! We were in love. The land was beautiful (but overgrown) and the trees were mature (but overgrown). The heavens parted and the sun shone down as we looked at the potential of this place.

But did I mention the house? There was a farmhouse that the previous owner had torn down. He then dug and poured a new foundation that we are guessing is three times larger than the previous house. He then built two stories on top of that huge foundation. To top it all off, he then built a breezeway connecting the house to a machine shed that would be used as a garage.

So what do we do? It IS new construction. It IS a blank slate inside with nothing finished. It IS impeccably built with joists that are 12 inches on center and thick foundation walls. It IS a beautiful piece of land. It IS in the most perfect location.

What did we do? We bought it!

In the posts to come, we’ll take you inside this massive house, share our plans to “downsize” it, and fill you in on all the craziness that comes with tackling a project this big. Be sure to subscribe to our blog so all the craziness can be delivered to your inbox!
